  • How do I choose a reputable contractor?

After a storm, it's crucial to find a reputable roofing and siding company to assess and repair any damage. Be very wary about contractors who only show up for this one storm and will be gone – either before or right after they are done.  Here are some key things to look for when evaluating roofing companies:

License and Insurance: Ensure the company is licensed to operate in your area and carries adequate insurance, including liability and worker's compensation insurance. Ask for a Certificate of Insurance that lists what coverages they carry. This protects you from liability in case of accidents or damage during the repair process.  Check the Nebraska Contractor’s Registry at: https://dol.nebraska.gov/conreg/search

Local Reputation: Look for a company with a strong local reputation. Ask for recommendations from friends, family, or neighbors who have used roofing and siding services in the past. Online reviews and ratings can also provide insight into the company's reputation. Do they have a local non-PO Box address?  Are their phone number’s area code’s local?

Experience: Choose a company with extensive experience in storm damage repair. Experienced roofers are more likely to accurately assess the damage and recommend the appropriate repairs.  When did the company start?

Use Reputable Manufactures and Suppliers: Check if the company has relationships with reputable manufacturers and suppliers.

Have Your Contractor Present for the Inspection: Often times when a large storm event occurs, companies will call in their catastrophe teams to perform the inspection. Invite us to meet with your insurance adjuster to make sure they hit ALL the damage and understand local codes for a smooth restoration process.

Warranty: Inquire about the warranty offered on both materials and labor. A reputable company should stand behind their work with a solid warranty. Make sure you understand the terms and conditions of the warranty before proceeding.

Communication and Professionalism: Pay attention to how the company communicates with you. They should be responsive to your inquiries and provide clear, detailed explanations of the repair process. Professionalism in all interactions is also essential.

Timeline: Ask about the estimated timeline for completing the repairs. While some delays may be unavoidable, a reputable company should be able to give you a reasonable timeframe for project completion.

References: Request references from past customers and follow up with them to gauge their satisfaction with the company's work. A reliable company should be able to provide references upon request.

Contract: Review the contract carefully before signing. Ensure that all terms, including payment schedules, are clearly outlined. Don't hesitate to ask for clarification on any aspects of the contract that you're unsure about. Exterior Roofing and Siding asks for 50% down and 50% on completion.  However, your down payment should be close to your installation or material delivery time.

Getting the work done.  Everybody gets busy during a storm so be careful who you decide with whom to contract. This is a partnership, and you need to trust who you select will Treat you Right, Price it Right and Do it Right!

By considering these factors and thoroughly researching roofing companies in your area, you can choose a reputable company that will effectively repair any storm damage to your roof.

  • When can I get my work done?

There are many factors that determine schedule.

There is a "busy season" for exterior building systems.  Typically, work is best done from May until October.  Things can be hit or miss during April and November.

There are ways to work during the heartland's colder months.  We can "tent and heat" an area to apply cementious materials like EIFS/Stucco or brick/stone.  There is an additional cost to these methods.

We use manufacturers that have products that can be applied in colder weather like Malarkey Shingles, siding and liquid applied barriers.

  • When are you open?

Typically, we are open Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 3:30 or 4:30 PM.  Please make an appointment to make sure we are not out looking at projects.

  • What is EIFS (EFS, EFUS)?

EIFS is an acronym for Exterior Insulated Finish System.  It is an exterior cladding that has several components.  It has a moisture and air barrier, foam (Extruded Polystyrene), a cementitious base coat with embedded mesh, and a final finish coat of synthetic stucco with integral color.

  • What services do you provide?

We are an installer for several exterior systems.  These include roofs, siding, gutters, windows, EIFS or stucco, brick, stone, caulking and weather barriers.

  • When can EIFS or stucco be installed?

Any material with water in it must have 40 degrees and rising temperatures.  EIFS must have overnight temperatures above 40 degrees for 24 hours to cure.  Other pliable materials generally need 25 degrees to install.

  • What do you charge for your services?

There are many factors that go into determining a price for a particular project.  The complexity of the roof or walls can significantly affect the final cost.  The height of the building is another factor.  The temperatures and weather conditions can affect pricing.  The selection of materials can vary widely. In recent years the cost of materials and labor have risen more than usual.  The number of openings (windows, doors, pipes, etc.) affect application of claddings.  The complexity of design is another factor.  Coordination with other trades certainly affects when we do our work and the final quality of it.  Therefore, we must examine the project with either an onsite visit or with architectural plan sets to determine the final costs.

  • What happens if you find something else wrong on my house/building?

Often, we can’t see underneath the surface of the building.  Problems can exist whose cause just can’t be determined from a surface look.  We may find issues with water leakage, poor initial installation, simple wear and tear of materials, old construction techniques or many other issues.  We will bring these to your attention and discuss possible solutions and costs.  We will get your approval to proceed.  Our objective is to “do-it-right” so we don’t look to cover things up so that you have to deal with it again in the future.

  • What type of roofing materials are best for my home?

The best type of roofing materials for your home depends on a variety of factors, including your budget, the climate in your area, the style of your home, and your personal preferences. Here are some common roofing materials and their benefits:

    1. Asphalt shingles - Affordable, easy to install, and available in a wide range of colors and styles. They are a good choice for most homes in moderate climates.

    2. Metal roofing - Durable, fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and low-maintenance. They can be made from a variety of metals, including steel, aluminum, and copper.

    3. Clay or concrete tiles - Durable, energy-efficient, and fire-resistant. They are popular in warmer climates and for homes with a Mediterranean or Spanish-style architecture.

    4. Slate - Durable, fire-resistant, and visually appealing. They are an expensive option but can last for more than 100 years.

    5. Wood shingles or shakes - Natural-looking and visually appealing. They require more maintenance than other materials and may not be allowed in some areas due to fire concerns.

Ultimately, the best roofing material for your home will depend on your individual needs and preferences. Talk to our Omaha, NE roofing experts to help you decide on the best choices for your home.

  • How long will the roofing project take to complete?

The duration of a roofing project can vary depending on several factors such as the size of the roof, the complexity of the project, weather conditions, and the availability of the roofing materials. However, as a general rule, a typical roof replacement project can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to complete.

A smaller or simpler roof, such as a garage or small shed, may take only a few days to complete. However, larger roofs or those with a more complex design, such as a roof with multiple valleys or dormers, may take longer.

Additionally, weather conditions can play a significant role in the duration of a roofing project. Rain or other adverse weather conditions can cause delays or even halt work altogether until conditions improve.

When you hire Exterior, we will typically provide you with an estimated timeline for the project based on the specific details of your project. It is important to communicate your expectations with us, and ask any questions you may have about the timeline or potential delays that could arise.

  • What is the cost of a new roof, and what factors influence the cost?

The cost of a new roof can vary widely depending on several factors, including the size of the roof, the roofing materials selected, the complexity of the project, and the location of the home. The following are some factors that can influence the cost of a new roof:

    1. Roof size: The larger the roof, the more materials and labor will be required, and the higher the cost.

    2. Roofing materials: The type of roofing material selected can have a significant impact on the cost. For example, metal and tile roofs tend to be more expensive than asphalt shingles.

    3. Roof pitch and complexity: A roof with a steep pitch or with multiple angles and slopes will require more time and labor to install, increasing the overall cost.

    4. Roofing accessories: The cost of additional roofing accessories such as gutters, skylights, and ventilation systems will add to the total cost.

    5. Location: The cost of labor and materials can vary widely depending on the location of the home and the availability of roofing materials.

    6. Unseen issues:  We can’t see what is under the current roofing system and if there are issues like rotted sheathing, then that could add to your costs.

As a general rule, the cost of a new roof can range from a few thousand dollars for a small or simple roof with basic asphalt shingles to tens of thousands of dollars for a larger or more complex roof with high-end materials such as slate or metal. Exterior can help you navigate these issues and develop a plan that will meet your needs.
